Ready for a Cream-Filled Christmas
Slathered on the Christmas pudding, poured over strawberries or squished into brandy snaps, cream is such a big part of the Kiwi Christmas that 15 per cent of all Fonterra Brands New Zealand’s annual cream sales happen during the festive season.
Fonterra Brands New Zealand General Manager Retail Sales and Export Baden Ngan Kee says the Anchor cream plant is working faster than Santa's elves to ensure demand is met.
"Kiwis love cream and Christmas just wouldn't be the same without it. Over the last three weeks we've sold enough cream to cover more than 100,000 pavlovas and fill more than six million brandy snaps. We expect that over the next four days we'll sell almost four times this amount.
"More than half of all our December sales are due to the last minute Christmas rush. Kiwis hit the supermarkets in the four days leading up to Christmas to stock up on all the essentials and cream is at the top of every Christmas menu."
To make sure all New Zealanders get their fill of Christmas cream, the Fonterra Brands team has been working overtime, restocking shelves, placing extra fridges and talking to customers to ensure enough product is made in time for the big day.
"And it's not just cream," says Mr Ngan Kee. "A whole range of dairy favourites take centre stage at this time of year. We sell almost a quarter of our annual custard sales over this period and around 10 per cent of our specialty cheeses as well.
"It's certainly an exciting time for our team."
