Milk Concentration Technology

3,000 fewer tanker movements, significant cost-savings and environmental benefits are the results of the world-first milk concentration technology employed at our Tua Marina site in the South Island of New Zealand.

Previously, milk from our Marlborough suppliers was collected by tanker and taken to the site. From there, it was line-hauled to our Clandeboye site for processing.

The installation of our sophisticated concentration plant at Tua Marina now means that milk can be concentrated to approximately half its original volume before being transported to Clandeboye.

The technology was developed by Fonterra’s team of technologists across the country. It means that fewer trucks are required to transport the same quantity of milk solids and this translates into benefits for the environment, road users and the wider community.
